INSTRUCTORS

Howard Moring

Picture
Sensei Howard has been training in martial arts since 1977 with his primary emphasis being Shobayashi Shorin-Ryu. Sensei has achieved many accolades in wrestling and point fighting, but you would never know it because he doesn't boast. Sensei believes in the spirit of giving and developing ones self to his/her full potential. It is also noteworthy to mention that sensei made an entire career of working in a rehabilitative forensic environment. This is especially noteworthy because the clients he worked with had severe mental health issues that had caused them to be sent to the treatment center he worked at. Due to the health issues the clients had, there were numerous times throughout his career that sensei had to employ self-defense tactics to prevent the residents from harming themselves or others.

Jeremey Ahlgren

Picture
Sensei Jeremey Ahlgren is a sandan (third degree blackbelt) in Shobayashi Shorin-Ryu. He served in the U.S Army,  has worked in forensics, security and in the education field as a high school teacher. Sensei has a degree in Family Life and Community Services from Kansas State University, CSCS (certified strength and conditioning specialist) through NSCA, and previously held a professional teaching certificate for the state of Florida covering k-12 ( ESE, health and PE ). The certifications, rank, and experience working with various populations make Jeremey capable of providing martial art and fitness instruction to people of all abilities and needs.

Jeremey provides instruction in two formats. Traditional Okiniwan karate-do is presented and practiced in a more formal setting with participants wearing a gi (uniform) while performing the various movements associated with karate. The other instructional approach still adheres to the ethics and courtesy one learns during the the more formal classes but is performed wearing comfortable athletic wear and focuses heavily on learning and applying MMA style striking, throwing, and grappling methods in a dynamic environment.
